Walk Michigan/Walking Works!

Walk Michigan/Walking Works is a free fun and pleasurable walking program that was created in 1985 by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. In 2008, Blue Cross Blue Shield’s “Walking Works” program has partnered with Walk Michigan to increase the outreach possibilities and encourage fitness opportunities for active Michiganians to enjoy their recreation and park facilities while also improving their health and physical fitness.

Director's Forum - Change Management

How to Become Media Worthy
WMRPA and Holland Recreation are presenting a workshop by Communication Specialist, Brian J. Bove of Grand Valley State University. This program will cover building relationships with your local media, what steps to take to increase potential coverage and how to make your event or program feel "newsworthy" to local media. Breakfast snacks and coffee provided by WMRPA. Limited seating available. Cost: Free to WMRPA members; $5 to MRPA members, $15 to non MRPA/WMRPA members ($15 fee includes membership in WMRPA). Legislation Workshop
We invite you to join us at this Legislation Workshop presented by the Therapeutic Recreation and Public Policy Committees. Featured speakers are Joan Lenhard, Lansing Parks & Recreation and Dennis Schornack, MRPA Executive Director. Here's a glimpse at the topics to be covered: Do you know what to do when you receive info on an action alert? How do you take a form letter and make it personal? Who do you contact? You will learn about current legislation impacting Parks & Recreation. You will learn to adapt form letters to be specific to your setting / needs. Some online work will take place, giving you valuable resources to take home. Learn how proposals turn into laws or regulations.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, December 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (with a 20 minute break) at the Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbott Road, East Lansing, MI 48823. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $20 for MRPA members, $30 non-members. Registration deadline is 12/4 to avoid $10 Late Fee.
Pickle Ball
Pickle Ball is one of the fastest growing sports with active senior citizens. It was created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island in Washington and named after a family dog. It now has rules, can be played with singles or doubles, inside or outside.
