MRPA Responds to Grand Rapids Parks Funding Controversy

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox announced Wednesday, March 18 that $500,000 from a Countrywide Financial Corp. settlement over foreclosures was to be awarded to two Grand Rapids-area parks. Michigan Recreation and Park Association Executive Director Dennis Schornack issued the following statement:

"I commend the Attorney General for standing up for what thousands of park professionals across Michigan understand firsthand -- that high quality parks are essential to Michigan's quality of life. Parks maintain and improve property values. Parks help keep young people engaged and out of trouble. Parks are places where families come together and the fabric of community is woven. Investing in our parks is the right choice for this settlement and the right choice for Michigan."
