Lifeguards Shine at MRPA's Annual Competition

On Friday, August 7, lifeguards convened at the Troy Family Aquatic Center to put their skills to the test for the 12th Annual Michigan Recreation and Park Association Lifeguard Competition. A total of 19 two-person teams participated in the competition, which started bright and early at 7:45 am.

Lifeguards sharpened their skills and competed for bragging rights through five events during  the day-long competition.

CPR, spinal rescues, and retrival drills were evaluated for points, guards faced off head-to-head in the tug-of-war event and raced the clock in the Monster event. A challenging obstacle course, the Monster event is designed to be both physically and mentally challenging for participants.

All competitors rose to the challenge and gave a great effort, but only two teams (one men, one women) could be named first-place finishers. In the end, teams representing the Troy Family Aquatic Center edged out the competition to earn top spots in both the Men's and Women's divisions.

Congratulations go out to the teams of Lisa Inman and Nicki Rockentine and Kyle Curry and Scott Johnson of the Troy Family Aquatic Center (pictured below), as well as all lifeguards who competed in this years event.
