Walk Michigan/Walking Works!
Walk Michigan/Walking Works
is a free fun
and pleasurable walking program that was created in 1985 by the
Michigan Recreation and Park Association and Blue Cross Blue
Shield of Michigan. In 2008, Blue Cross Blue Shield’s “Walking
Works” program has partnered with Walk Michigan to increase the
outreach possibilities and encourage fitness opportunities for
active Michiganians to enjoy their recreation and park
facilities while also improving their health and physical
fitness. |
How Your
Community Can Participate
There is no fee for your community or agency to participate in the Walk
Michigan!/Walking Works! program. Participating communities will
receive a complete coordinator’s packet that has helpful and valuable
information to assist you in organizing Walk Michigan/Walking Works!
activities in your community, educational materials to share with your
program participants and marketing materials useful for your community’s
program.
Trips for Two to Mackinac Island
Participating communities will have a chance to win a trip for two to
participate in Michigan’s famous Labor Day Bridge Walk and visit
beautiful and historic Mackinac Island! Last year more than 175
walkers, guests, and volunteers enjoyed the trip. Many participating
communities also offer additional prizes. As a participating agency,
you will also have a first-chance opportunity to purchase the Mackinac
Island Labor Day weekend package participant give-away. This exciting
travel package, which consists of a four days/three nights stay at the
Mission Point Resort on Michigan’s stunning and historic Mackinac
Island, can be an outstanding incentive for encouraging walker
participation in your scheduled Walk Michigan/Walking Works! events.
You may wish to offer this luxury travel package as a Grand Prize to
walkers in your Walk Michigan/Walking Works! programs. Communities that
do not purchase this special package may pass the opportunity to
purchase a trip directly on to walkers. Trip packages are available to
all walkers, so everyone’s a fitness winner in Walk Michigan/Walking
Works!
