The MI Big Green Gym initiative is a partnership between Michigan Recreation and Park Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The program is designed to promote overall well-being and a healthy lifestyle through use of parks. Simple concept, big idea. Michigan has some of the country's best parks which provide unique ways to stay active and spend time with family and community. MI Big Green Gym is comprised of participating state, county, and local parks; Michigan really is a big green gym - with endless opportunities to get active.
MRPA Blues Community Challenge
This summer, selected MRPA member communities participated in some "healthy" competition. The Blues' Community Challenge posed communities against one another to see who could rack up the most points by tracking mileage and physical activity. Congratulations to the top finishers:
1st place – Team Emmet County, winning $5,000
2nd place – Team Grand Traverse County, winning $3,000
3rd place – Team SELCRA, winning $1,500
4th place – Team Grand Rapids, winning $500
Congratulations to all of the teams and participants! We’re proud to continue our commitment supporting healthy lifestyles by investing in public parks and recreation spaces. A special thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan for putting on the Challenge!
